2) Record cleaning machine Back

The record cleaning machine was born out of a complete accident: The caretaker of our building found in the trash of a nearby building a very rugged and well built electric motor with a controller. I had plans to get a VPI or similar machine but both the cost and the hassle of shipping to Venezuela kept making  it a "later" project.

The motor torque is very, very high and the controller allows for speeds from almost-0 to 60 rpm, reversible. After some work, the machine is able now to hold a record by the label area. It uses two metal discs with heavy foam from a mousepad to grab the label. Pressure is provided by a butterfly nut. If high downward pressure needs to be made while turning, a second Lp can be used as a platform but this should not be required ever.

It can be used to simply hold Lps for Disc Doctoring and similar procedures and also to turn them for rinsing, vacuuming and Discwashing.

I paid the caretaker about eight dollars for the set. It looks like laboratory equipment. The cases are of heavy gauge metal and internal parts look very rugged and durable. It is German made and came to me wired for 50 Hz. The brand is Automat. I changed some internal jumpers and now it's set for 60 Hz.

I was told recently that it might be meant for animated store displays.

I have many ideas on developing this machine further. Each new one is crazier than the one before it. Some have potential but require time and experimenting.

3) Stylus inspection tool Back

The lens piece for this tool came from an old, cheap microscope. The 10X lens was removed from the turret and fit to a plastic handle that was shaped with heat from a soldering iron.

You'd be surprised how adequate this tool is. The magnification is just right for checking gum accumulation and stylus shape. The other two lenses in the microscope were of higher magnification but the depth of field was too shallow.

Both your eye and the stylus tip have to be very close to the tool for inspecting but should be easy for people that deal with cartridge alignment and VTA setting as a hobby.

Answers the question "How do I program my multi-CD player to listen to the Beatles' music in the order it was released?".

b) Rolling Stones Decca Output Back

Answers the question "What albums do I need in order to have the full output of the Stones for Decca/London?". Overlaps are unavoidable. Repeats are shown between carets. Others groupings can be made but this one uses the MFSL box as its cornerstone (pun intended). Albums in that box are marked with an "*".

A vinyl source for tracks not in albums is indicated, mostly German compilations.

Venezuela Sgt. Pepper's Rarities  Back

This is the rear cover of an early issue of "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" from Venezuela. It is a non-gatefold jacket, made of two printed flats sandwiched in plastic.

Notice something unusual?

Look closely: the photograph is mirrored!!

The lyrics are OK. Five plates (one extra black for the lyrics/credits) were supplied and they reversed the four from the picture.

LMTP-8006. Manufacturer/label is Musitron. Printed by Litografía Sonolito which should have known better but many thanks to them for this treasured collectors item.

Later editions were regular, gatefold jackets. But there's something unique in their inner spread. Look closely again:

The (mop) tops are cut but there's more of the picture in the bottom, showing Paul's watch in his right hand. As far as I know, no other issue in the world uses this cropping of the picture (I have about 25 issues of Pepper's from the same number of countries). All Venezuelan gatefold issues by different manufacturers along the years are similar to this one.
